The 2010 Westbank First Nation Community Plan is the plan guiding growth, development, resource management and community planning within the reserve lands and traditional territory of Westbank First Nation. It reflects the vision that Westbank First Nation Members have for their community, and their territorial lands and resources. The vision is strategic, sustainable and long term and is based on a desire for an improved future. The policies and initiatives within the 2010 Westbank First Nation Community Plan guide the creation and amendment of Westbank First Nation Laws. The 2010 Westbank First Nation Community Plan also provides the basis for actions and decisions to both protect and improve the quality of life for all Members and Non-Member Residents of Westbank First Nation Lands and traditional territory, both present and future. The 2010 Westbank First Nation Community Plan provides the strategic foundation for more detailed plans and policies as they relate to the various departments within the Westbank First Nation Government. Westbank First Nation’s internal strategic plans reflect and encompass the basic principles of the 2010 Westbank First Nation Community Plan and will be implemented in department policy, programs, and community development.
Community Planning
WFN planning staff have been engaged in a comprehensive community development process to ensure that WFN Members have an ongoing opportunity to provide input into processes that impact them.
Comprehensive Community Planning:
The Community Plan includes goals and objectives in key planning areas, all of which are interrelated and interdependent. These include: governance, land & resources, health, infrastructure, culture, social dynamics and the economy.
The Westbank First Nation Community Plan will be monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis, with changes made to reflect the vision and the needs of the community.
The 2010 Westbank First Nation Community Plan also joins a range of other planning tools which include: • The Westbank First Nation Self-Government Agreement; • The Westbank First Nation Self-Government Implementation Plan; • The Westbank First Nation Constitution; • The Westbank First Nation Land Use Plan; and • The Westbank First Nation Government Strategic Plan 2008-2013. Over time the Westbank First Nation Community Plan will undergo amendments to reflect the shifting vision and day to day challenges of Westbank First Nation Members. No community is stagnant; change will occur with or without a plan, but the presence of a plan helps to direct the change in a proactive manner so that Westbank First Nation Members can feel secure in knowing that their future is in their own hands.
