View the WFN Government Strategic Plan for 2016-2019.
In 2005, WFN embarked upon the implementation of the most comprehensive First Nation self-government agreement in Canada. This brings with it a huge range of planning challenges, along with the opportunity for WFN to demonstrate incredible innovation and creativity.
In addition to the challenges associated with self-government implementation, WFN is a community experiencing tremendous growth. Like any other rapid-growing community, WFN is faced with demands on infrastructure and services and recognizes the importance of establishing a thorough legislative and regulatory framework.
The Strategic Plan is the third strategic plan adopted by Council since achieving self-governance in 2005. It is the result of a fundamental review of WFN’s position and priorities undertaken by Council, and is designed to reflect the aspirations of the community and guide Council in its decision-making approach towards meeting its goals over the next three years.
It will also be used to define WFN’s purpose and to guide future growth. Five high level priorities are identified, as well as several measurable goals based on the five priorities. Each of the goals have been placed under the appropriate Food Chief. Council has adopted the traditional syilx Food Chief model in the Government Strategic Plan to align with the Community Plan and other committee structures.
The plan will help to guide the development of WFN's financial plans and detailed department work plans. It will be regularly reviewed to ensure it reflects the evolving vision of the community and the organization.
