EducationWestbank First Nation administers a number of education programs including: Westbank Child Development Centre (WCDC)The WCDC is a provincially licensed facility for
Westbank First Nation member children and for aboriginals living on WFN lands. It is a user pay program that provides 8 spaces for
infants and 16 spaces for toddlers ages 3-5.The centre is located on a bus route one minute from the Westbank Shopping Centre
in Westbank, British Columbia. The hours of operation are from 7:30 am to 5:30
pm Monday to Friday. The staff are trained Early Childhood Educators and some have additional
qualifications in Infant Toddler Care and Special Needs. The centre provides
a safe, warm, nurturing environment where children are provided with
opportunities to develop to their greatest potential. A balance of free
play and structured activities are available in the areas of arts &
crafts, dramatic play, science, manipulative experiences and circle time
in order to foster language, social, emotional, intellectual and physical
development. The curriculum is augmented with special events including a
variety of educational field trips, multi-cultural themes and computer
instruction. Aboriginal Head Start PreschoolThe Head Start Preschool is located at the WCDC and is for children ages 3 and 4 who are Westbank First Nation member children and aboriginal children living on WFN lands. Okanagan language and culture is taught in addition to the other main components of development, socialization, and nutrition. It builds on other community programs such as: Toddler Time: Tuesdays, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm For more information contact: Sensisyusten House of LearningThe Sensisyusten House of Learning is designed after a traditional native pit-house lending itself to interactive learning in a warm and inviting environment. Sensisyusten offers junior kindergarten to grade five programs. Sensisyusten is a Group 1 Independent School with the B.C. Ministry of Education.
