WFN has been selected to receive $6 million in funding from Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada to upgrade the facilities at Sensisyusten. This project will include a comprehensive building assessment on the existing structure and involve the WFN community to complete a School Needs Assessment in order to develop conceptual plans for the expansion and site upgrades. Information about how to share your ideas on the expansion design may be found at the bottom of this page.
The expansion scope will be updated through the consultation process.
Westbank First Nation is one of nine successful applicants across Canada to receive funding for School projects through the Innovation Fund. INAC is investing $50 million over six years throughout Canada and has committed $6 million for WFN. More info >
The estimated costs will be refined through a needs assessment.
*Cost above INAC's contribution will need to be funded by WFN
Community Members are encouraged to get involved in the design process at two upcoming open houses, one in November and one in early 2017. At the first open house in November, find out more about the project, share design ideas, discuss key success factors, and discuss potential community uses that could be incorporated into the design. At the second open house in early 2017, the community will then learn the outcomes of the first Open House, view the concept designs, and vote on the design that they prefer.
Thank you to all of the Members who completed the Sensisyusten Expansion and Renovation Survey! Congratulations to the winners of the prize draw! Jolene Esau, Bobbi Ell, Shayla Lawrence, and Albert Wilson each won a $100 gift card to a local store. The survey closed on January 13, 2017, and a summary of the results will be posted to this page in February. The results are being used by the architects to develop design concepts, which will be brought back to the community for review at a second open house in early 2017. In total, 79 community members completed the survey.
