Westbank First Nation is now working toward building its own housing strategy specifically for and led by its Membership. The goal is to to provide adequate housing options to all WFN Members. In pursuit of this objective, an Allotment Commission has been created to allot Community Lands, set aside by Council for the purpose of permanent homeownership. The Westbank First Nation Community Plan, which is founded upon in-depth consultation with the Membership and Council, outlines that “basic needs such as shelter are a necessity to living a productive and healthy life” (WFN, 2011). Click here for more in-depth information regarding this initiative.
WFN maintains a stock of forty-eight (48) non-profit housing units. Additional units are obtained by housing allocations from Canada Mortgage and Housing. Like all bands, Westbank First Nation applies each year for these allocations, but is never guaranteed an allocation, as the demand exceeds the supply. Each band may recieve up to six units per year. To be considered as a tenant for non-profit housing, please contact our Housing Coordinator.
Staff also provides assistance with the applications for various INAC and CMHC programs including Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program, Home Adaptations for Seniors' Independence, INAC new housing construction subsidy, and the Elder's Emergency Home Repair Program.
