A Nurse Practitioner is available every Wednesday to assess, diagnose and treat any acute and chronic illnesses. The target is for community members who do not have a physician, can’t get to their physician and/or require regular check ups. Appointments are necessary, so please call Community Services and ask to speak with any of the nursing staff to set up an appointment.

This program promotes a healthy lifestyle and management of persons living with a chronic disease. Physician input/focus is required for admission into the program. Clients can participate monthly by making an appointment through Community Services Reception. WFN members will receive a monthly $25 gift certificate from Quality Greens or Nature’s Fair which are used to make healthy food choices. Monthly appointments involve health monitoring, health discussion and education with the Home Care Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Kimberly Hayter, Diabetic Specialist, is available every second Thursday for specialist diabetic advice, education, and Cholesterol testing.

This is a program for clients who have diabetes and require information and assistance to monitor blood sugar. At the appointments, blood test screening, monitoring of blood pressure and weight will be ongoing, and the clients will be provided with diabetes education in the areas of nutrition and physical activity. Foot care is offered by appointment for people living with diabetes. WFN members will receive a monthly $25 gift certificate from Quality Greens or Nature’s Fare to assist with healthy eating. Appointments can be made with the nursing staff.

Immunizations are an important way to keep our community healthy, and we have a program to ensure that all your immunizations are current and up to date. Community Services offers all the same immunizations that Interior Health does and we also keep a record of all immunizations you or your child receives. This comes in handy when you require a copy for your child’s school or you require a record of immunizations for any reason. Appointments can be made by the nursing staff, so please feel free to call Community Services today.

TB screening is done to prevent tuberculosis from spreading in our community. It is required for all Pine Acres, Sensisyusten School, WCDC, Communisty Services and Lindley Building Staff, as well as any volunteers within our community.

This program is for pre- and post-natal families in the WFN community. The program increases awareness about nutrition and healthy pregnancies, healthy weight gain, and healthy birth weights of babies. If you or someone you know is pregnant and living on WFN lands and either you or your spouse is First Nations, we encourage you to give us a call and register for the program with our prenatal nurse, Mirjam. It is never too early to start raising a healthy child.
This program is designed for individuals of any age who have an assessed need, are living on reserve, and want to maintain their independence and health. The assessed need can include issues related to age, health, or disability and the level of care is determined by the nursing staff, your family doctor, and the Health Services Manager. Type of assistance available may include nursing care, personal care, foot care, light housework, and transportation assistance with errands and/or appointments. Please contact Community Services if you require assistance and would like to arrange for an assessment.
WHEN: 12-week session | Mondays starting September 28, 2015 | 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This is a new program that is offered for 12 weeks and delivered by the Health and Wellness team together. It is based on healthy living via diet, exercise and creating balance. It involves meeting to share a healthy meal, tips on creating balanced healthy meals at home, health screening and monitoring, and sharing ways to get active, and tracking the activity daily.
This program is currently full. Please check back in 2016 for details on the next session. Registration will be required.

To promote different health and safety initiatives during the year, all departments collaborate with each other and outside agencies, and information is shared with community members. There are periodic screening tests, hearing tests, a mobile diabetes clinic which includes eye testing, cooking and canning sessions, walking programs, and events like Movember and Run for a Cure, just to name a few. If you have any specific health-related questions or concerns, the friendly nursing staff are here to address them. Appointments are recommended, so please call and ask to speak to the nurses.
We provide financial assistance for travel to specialist appointments, surgery or medical care outside of the Kelowna area within B.C. This program is for aboriginal persons on WFN lands, and there are some criteria to qualify.
In collaboration with Interior Health the dental hygienist is on site to do oral health presentations to all community members. The dental hygienist does visits to the school, community services, and daycare to do complete dental checks and a fluoride varnishing program for children ages 6 and under.
The health team by appointment are able to offer PAP testing at the community health building as well as individual and group sessions on women's health, including menopause, sexual health, education and advice on self-breast exams.
