INNERGEX RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECT & PARTNERSHIP PROPOSAL
We want to hear from you!
PROJECT OVERVIEW, FAQ'S, CURRENT STATUS & MORE:
Innergex Renewable Energy Inc (Innergex) and Westbank First Nation (WFN) are exploring a potential partnership for
a Wind Energy Project (K2 Wind Project) near Pennask Mountain. The partnership opportunity originated from a
referral received by WFN with connection to the Request For Proposals (RFP) that BC Hydro initiated in summer 2024.
In April 2024, BC Hydro launched a Call-for-Power to acquire approximately 3,000 gigawatt hours per year (GWh/y) of
clean electricity. This is BC Hydro's first competitive call for power in more than fifteen years. In 2023, The Okanagan
Nation Alliance submitted a written paper to BC Hydro notifying them that if BC Hydro is initiating an RFP, First
Nation Communities need to be involved in a meaningful way, including equity participation. BC Hydro moved
quicker than anticipated and made this a requirement in the 2024 Call For Power; First Nation Communities must hold
a minimum of 25% Equity Ownership in any of the RFP Bid Submissions.
WFN received six referrals from different energy companies for projects within the WFN Area of Responsibility.
Through careful consideration and reviewing the vast amount of impacts and opportunities, WFN staff recommended
to explore the K2 Wind Project alongside Innergex.
There is no partnership without the Westbank First Nation Membership being behind this project. WFN invites the
Community to participate in the engagement sessions, ask questions and assist staff in taking the right approach.
