Important Update: Temporary Hold on all New Water Connections on IR#9

Westbank First Nation has placed a temporary hold on all new water connections on IR#9 due to growing strain on our water systems. While our water remains clean and abundant, the infrastructure that delivers it - including the pumps – has reached its capacity.

In response, Council has reluctantly decided that no new water draws will be approved at this time, even if the request seems simple or minor. This includes:

  • New residential or commercial buildings
  • Additional units on existing properties
  • Small additions that increase water usage ie. new sinks, toilets, or other water-using fixtures

This temporary measure supports fire protection, preserves service levels for existing residents, and aligns with broader conservation efforts across the region.

In addition, Westbank First Nation is currently under Stage 2 Water Restrictions, which limit outdoor water use, promote conservation, and support FireSmart principles to reduce wildfire risk.

As our days grow longer and hotter, we encourage everyone to explore WaterWise conservation tips and take the Make Water Work Pledge at MakeWaterWork.ca.

We thank our community for their understanding. The timeframe for resolution is uncertain at this time, but please know we are doing everything we can to remedy the situation and will provide updates as conditions change.
