WFN Business Walk Highlights Optimism and Growth Among Local Businesses

During Small Business Week 2025, WFN Economic Development partnered with the Greater Westside Board of Trade (GWBOT) to host the annual Business Walk on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

The event brought together WFN Councillors, Economic Development Commissioners, GWBOT Board Members, and staff to connect directly with businesses on WFN Lands. Through in-person visits and an online survey, 51 businesses participated, offering valuable insights into the local economic landscape.

Nearly 50% of respondents reported being established on WFN Lands for over 10 years, demonstrating strong business stability and community roots. Businesses rated their past-year performance an average of 4 out of 5 stars, and their expectations for the next 12 months slightly higher at 4.2 out of 5, signaling continued optimism and confidence in local market conditions.

Employment trends also reflected this confidence, over 52% of businesses reported they are currently hiring or planning to hire in the near term. This suggests sustained growth and demand for labour across multiple sectors.

When asked about current challenges, the rising cost of goods emerged as the most significant pressure, with labour shortages ranking a close second. Despite these headwinds, most respondents described their operations as steady or improving, pointing to an overall healthy and resilient business environment.

The insights gathered through the 2025 Business Walk will help WFN Economic Development and GWBOT shape future strategies and strengthen ongoing support for the Westside business community.

A sincere thank-you to all participating businesses and partners who contributed their time, insights, and enthusiasm your input continues to guide our shared vision for a thriving and connected local economy.
