Westbank First Nation (WFN) is proud that, in collaboration with Innergex Renewable Energy Inc., it has been awarded an Energy Purchase Agreement (EPA) through BC Hydro's 2024 Call for Power for the proposed K2 Wind Energy Project. Located in the Pennask Mountain area, within WFN's Community Forest License, this initiative represents an exciting opportunity for WFN to explore its potential role in advancing clean energy, sustainability, and economic growth.
As per WFN’s Constitution, a Membership referendum with a positive outcome is required for WFN to fully sign on and become a partner on this project. Nothing can be done without that. This democratic process ensures that all WFN Members have an opportunity to voice their perspectives and collectively guide WFN’s path forward.
“WFN is proud to have been awarded an Energy Purchase Agreement alongside Innergex for the proposed K2 Wind Energy Project,” said Westbank First Nation Chief Robert Louie. “This project demonstrates the power of collaboration and our dedication to leaving a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations. We look forward to engaging with our Membership as we move toward finalizing this transformative opportunity.”
The project aligns with key goals outlined in WFN’s Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP), including renewable energy development, self-reliance, and economic growth. If ultimately approved, the K2 Wind Energy Project would provide clean energy while creating employment and business opportunities for WFN Members. The project also respects and incorporates traditional ecological knowledge, ensuring that cultural values remain integral to its planning and implementation
WFN remains committed to transparency and collaboration as it evaluates the full potential of this transformative opportunity, ensuring it delivers meaningful environmental, cultural, and economic benefits for WFN and beyond.
