Chief Lindley looking to take young Post Secondary Adults to Brussels to experience the Young Diplomats Forum
Chief Roxanne Lindley has, for the past two years, escorted a group of Westbank First Nation post-secondary students to London for the Youth Diplomats Forum and is once again interested in taking 1-2 WFN youth Members to experience the Global Diplomatic - 2019 Young Diplomats Forum (YDF) Brussels, September 2-6, 2019. The YDF is an intensive week-long programme of practical sessions, workshops, policy exercises and institutional visits delivered by world leading experts. Set up to recognize, enhance and develop the next generation of diplomats, the YDF provides our future leaders with insight, tools and opportunities to engage with key stakeholders at a crucial time in their careers and broaden their connections to influence global leaders.
The purpose of this trip is to familiarize WFN youth with global initiatives. Interested youth are asked to meet and provide the following requirements:
- Be a WFN Member, Young Adult (aged 35 and under)
- Up-to-date passport which is valid until at least March 2020
- Post-secondary student (past or present)
- Interested in Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Business, and/or related fields of study
- A current resumes/curriculum vitae
- Letter of Interest including a personal statement of no more than 500 words to answer the following question: Describe your career aspirations: What kind of impact you would like to achieve through your career?
- A character reference letter
Participants must be willing to present at the Global Forum as well as present their experience to WFN Membership at a WFN Membership Meeting upon return.
Six WFN youth have already taken part in this exciting forum, and these youth are eligible and encouraged to reapply. There will be a WFN selection committee, as well as a YDF selection committee who will go through the applications and determine the most qualified applicants to attend. Deadline to send all required information to communications@wfn.ca is August 10, 2019, at noon. Applicants will be notified of the success of their application within a week or two of the deadline.
