BC HOUSING: PROPOSED COUGAR ROAD SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROJECT DEFERRED

December 15, 2020 - At the December 14, 2020 Council meeting, WFN Council reviewed the BC Housing proposed re-zoning/land use amendment for the identified project at 3235 Cougar Road. Upon review, Council determined to defer the application as received to 2021 for the purposes of conducting greater consultation. Council further determined to work towards a partnership with BC Housing.

This decision followed a meeting held between WFN Council and BC Housing representatives on December 7, 2020, where BC Housing acknowledged that the communication process to date for the proposed project had been ineffective. During this meeting, BC Housing proposed a deferral with the intent to pursue an official partnership agreement through a memorandum of understanding with WFN. The proposed partnership would allow WFN to engage with WFN Membership to clearly identify how a project of this nature would function on Westbank Lands and better support Membership. The proposed project is funded by BC Housing and would be operated by a non-profit organization Turning Points Collaborative Society.
