Brenda Creek Wildfire
July 15, 2021 - The Central Okanagan Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) has been activated in response to the Brenda Creek wildfire which was discovered yesterday (Wednesday July 14, 2021), northwest of Peachland and south of the Okanagan Connector Hwy 97-C. It is estimated at 400 hectares and is regarded as "out of control". BC Wildfire has deployed multiple air and ground crews.
An evacuation alert has also been issued for 43 properties within mainly rural Crown land and recreation sites in the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area south of Highway 97-C, including portions of the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen and Thompson Nicola Regional District.
Of great concern is BC Hydro’s transmission lines which power our community (and potentially other communities). While WFN has backup generators for our water systems, our communities have only the single power line feeding our grid system, which is currently within the evacuation alert area.
The EOC is working with all utilities and agencies including BC Hydro to monitor the wildfire and its potential impact. In the event the wildfire results in any power outages, residents and businesses should be prepared by visiting the BC Hydro website.
It’s anticipated further information on the status of the wildfire response will be available by the EOC by noon today (Thursday, July 15, 2021). Visit the CORD Emergency Website and SUBSCRIBE for updates.
