Drumming, dancing, arts and crafts at June 3 síyaʔ Celebration

2014 Siya Celebration - Dancers.jpg

The general public is invited to the Westbank First Nation Annual síyaʔ Celebration on June 3, 2016 at Pine Stadium. The Celebration will include traditional dancing, drumming, singing, and food. Explore vendor tables, craft tables, play stick games, and enjoy a chili and bannock lunch. This year's invited drum group is Coyote Crossing. This event is open to everyone; however, groups larger than five must RSVP in advance.

This Celebration coincides with the end of the school year, as it honours the sənsisyustən students and celebrates the hard work they have done throughout the year.

An important aspect of the síyaʔ Celebration is the síyaʔ Ceremony, which honors the síyaʔ (Saskatoon Berry). By honoring the síyaʔ, we honour the resources that have sustained us since time immemorial, as well as give thanks for the year that has passed. The syilx/Okanagan people have practiced this ceremony for many centuries.
