Economic Development Commission Elder Seat Opening 

Westbank First Nation Council is requesting letters of interest for the WFN Economic Development Commission (“EDC”) in order to fill the Elder position that will become vacant on September 15, 2015 due to the expiry of the current term.

Application Deadline: October 30, 2015

Purpose of the EDC: to assist WFN Council and the WFN economic community, involving WFN Members, community members and lessees, in creating a healthy, environmentally sustainable and dynamic economy on WFN lands, based on the value of economic self-reliance.

The Commission will show respect for the heritage and cultural values of the Okanagan (syilx) people. As such, the duties and responsibilities of the EDC include:

  • Acting in an advisory role for Council on economic development issues and on policies and laws that impact the economic development goals and vision;
  • Coordinating an overall community economic development vision and assisting in implementing the Community Economic Development Plan;
  • Establishing mechanisms to receive input on economic development policies from WFN’s economic community;
  • Developing initiatives, media materials and services to promote WFN as an attractive community for new enterprise; and
  • Assisting Council and its departments in making representation to government, industry and the public in areas of economic development and business.

The successful candidate will fulfill the requirements as outlined in the WFN EDC Charter and will be appointed by Council for a 3-year term. Commissioners are paid an honorarium per duly convened meeting, which typically take place once per month September to June. EDC Members are also encouraged to attend quarterly meetings with Council as well as various other events that may happen throughout the year so as to carry out EDC responsibilities.
