WFN Continues to Ease COVID-19 Restrictions for Tenants and Landlords

In recognition of the continued easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, effective September 8, 2020, Westbank First Nation (WFN) Council has rescinded their June 29, 2020 resolution related to landlord and tenant relief, and adopted the following measures until further notice:

a)Rent increase notices can be served. The effective date of a rent increase will be January 1, 2021 or the date as indicated on the notice; whichever date is later;

b)Landlords and tenants may enter into a rent/utility repayment agreement for unpaid rent and/or utilities, although a repayment agreement is not required;

c)A Notice to End a Residential Tenancy can be issued for non-payment or late payment of rent or utilities, or non-payment of an issued monetary order; and

d)Landlords are permitted to enter rental units with proper notice while following public health measures.

WFN Council and staff will continue to monitor the current pandemic situation as it relates to tenancy matters. Tenants and Landlords are encouraged to contact the WFN Residential Premises Administrator to support greater understanding of these changes.
