Windy conditions last night were a challenge for our B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) in fighting the many fires including the White Rock Lake fire along Westside Rd, and the aggressive Mount Law fire which sparked above Glenrosa last night (that fire remains out of control with ~1,000 people evacuated, plus the thousands already evacuated due to the White Rock Lake fire).
A small number of structures in Glenrosa were damaged overnight but overall BCWS enjoyed success building fire guards around the neighbourhoods. WFN's Fire Chief was on the radio today describing the stellar work by our local fire department to help contain the blaze in the face of high winds. We have reports that up to six water bombers were laddering water up to the fire today.
WFN’s Director of Operations attended the Emergency Command Post last night and our LEO’s have been providing support to BCWS, along with several WFN staff from various departments managing functions at the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). Limləmt to all!
WFN Council has also expressed its support for our neighbouring city of West Kelowna, and will do its utmost to provide support to Indigenous and other communities, relatives and friends of WFN who are required to evacuate. Evacuees needing support, can call the Emergency Support Services (ESS) Call Centre at 1-833-498-3770, or register at
