WFN's reserve lands are comprised of five land parcels totaling 5,340 acres next to the cities of Kelowna and West Kelowna. Since achieving Self Governing status in 2005, WFN has experienced incredible growth and success. Population/Demographics

Westbank First Nation is a community within the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO), which also includes Kelowna, West Kelowna, Peachland, and Lake Country. The RDCO has a total population of over 222,162.

Population and demographic information about WFN's two reserves, Tsinstikeptum IR9 and IR10, can be found in the 2021 Statistics Canada Census data (IR9 data; IR10 data). Information can also be found through BC Data.

Since 1998, Central Okanagan's population has grown from 150,000 to 200,000 and WFN's total population (Members and Non-Members) has grown from an estimated 5,500 people to 10,000. Likewise, residential units on WFN’s lands have grown from 2,277 homes in 1998 to 4,226 today. WFN’s Membership population as well has seen great increases from 547 Members in 1998, including 66 youth aged 12-18, to 840 Members today, including 108 youth aged 12-18.

Total WFN dwellings (housing units): 4,215 (including 3,645 on Tsinstikeptum I.R. 9 and 570 on Tsinstikeptum I.R. 10)

  • 37% total are moveable dwellings/mobile homes (37% on I.R. 9 and 33% on I.R. 10)
  • 37% are single detached houses (34% on I.R. 9 and 54% on I.R. 10)

Forestry
  • Community forest: 150,000 acres (60,000 hectares)
  • Timber produced annually: 85,000 cubic metres
Partnerships
  • WFN consolidated entities: Local Government Services, Land Registry, Treaty Negotiations Fund, First Nation Taxation Program, Non-Profit Housing, Long Term Care Facility, Social Development, Sensisyusten School.
  • Partnered with BC Ministry of Transportation: WFN has managed and administered the largest provincial infrastructure development projects on a reserve in BC, including a $41 million highway intersection, and two road extension overpass projects valued at $9.3 million and $17 million.
  • Okanagan Lake Shopping Centre: Churchill International 50% general partner; WFN 50% limited partner
  • Snyatan Shopping Centre: Anthem Properties 60% general partner; WFN 40% limited partner
  • Wind Farm Partnerships: One near Pennask and another between Summerland & Peachland, with 15 megawatts to be created at each station (enough to power 4,000 homes)
  • 2015 Communities in Bloom national winners: WFN and City of West Kelowna, based on categories of tidiness, landscaping, environmental action, heritage conservation and forestry
  • Kelowna International Airport (YLW): Canada’s 10th-busiest airport, situated 22km to the north east of WFN, ranked 10th in Canada by passenger traffic, and serves 1.6M passengers per annum (non-stop to Vancouver, Calgary, Seattle, Phoenix, Las Vegas and beyond)
