What is a Housing Strategy?
A housing strategy outlines how a First Nation / local government will respond to the housing needs of their community. It looks at a range of different types of housing – for WFN, this includes homeownership, allotment homes, WFN rentals, supportive housing, emergency housing and services, private market housing, and other needs depending on the community.
When creating annual department budgets and identifying housing-related projects, Council and WFN Administration use the Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) and the Housing Strategy to guide their decision-making.
2024 WFN Housing Strategy
On February 3, 2025, Council officially adopted the 2024 Westbank First Nation Housing Strategy.
Member housing is an ever evolving and important topic to the Membership. WFN’s previous housing strategy was adopted in 2011. Since that time there have been significant changes in the housing landscape. The 2024 Westbank First Nation Housing Strategy represents a community-driven, long-term approach to ensuring Members have equitable access to safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate housing.
This strategy will be reviewed every five years to ensure it remains responsive to evolving community needs, economic conditions, and funding opportunities. Through ongoing engagement and careful implementation, WFN is committed to building a housing system that reflects the aspirations and well-being of all Members.
