Recreation programs and activities support the physical well-being of community members. Programs are hosted at the WFN Gymnasium (1920 Quail Lane), the Youth Centre (1880 Quail Lane), or at other community facilities (noted in program description).

Arts group drop-in - Inspiration Weekly

When: Thursdays | 11:30am - 1:30pm

Paint. Bead. Draw. Create. Craft. Express. 
Open to WFN Members, staff, and community.  Learn about violence prevention and healing while participating in different art activities.  Lunch, activities and supplies are provided.

Basic hunting skills

When: October-November

Learn hunting skills, patience, gutting, skinning, butchering, see our traditional hunting territory, see the Derickson Trap line with Raymond Derickson & family, learn gun safety, traditional teachings when hunting, learn how to make a fire, hunting stories, just to name a few of the many exciting opportunities offered.

Limited seating available. Open to WFN Members and residents needing a ride up to Big White.

Equipment and gear can be signed out for each use. Sign up and gear up by each Thursday. 

The van leaves from the Youth Centre on time and will return after a full day. See calendar for exact times.

We can provide riders with snowboard lessons from our Youth/Red Snowboard Certified Instructors. Kids 11 years and under must be accompanied by a parent during full sessions.

Big White Season Pass

Each season, Westbank First Nation receives a limited number of Big White season and day passes for Members, who can submit their name for a chance to receive a pass. An application form must be submitted to Membership Services for a chance to receive a season pass. Please note that in order to receive an pass, you must be able to provide proof that you have been skiing at least 10 times.

Boot camp

When: Refer to calendar for most recent schedule
Where: WFN Gymnasium, 1920 Quail Lane, Westbank, BC
Cost: $2 fee available in $10 and $20 punch cards for WFN residents. No cost for WFN Members.

A certified personal trainer teaches a basic beginner level-advanced boot camp for all ages. It is advisable to get your physician’s approval before you start any fitness program.

Pick up your punch card at Community Services Reception (1900 Quail Lane) or Lindley Building first floor reception (515 Hwy 97 S).

Concerts and Rockets Game Tickets

Members may enter regular draws to win tickets to Rockets hockey games, concerts, and other events at Prospera Place. There are 10 tickets available for each game, concert, and event. To enter to draw, contact Membership Services. Please familiarize yourself with the Event Schedules, Guidelines and Code of Conduct linked below.

Conditions:

  • Names will be entered into a draw for each game unless the number of requests is less than 10.
  • Two tickets per Member per game.
  • Only put your name in the draw if you will and can attend.
  • Hockey game tickets are drawn 3-4 days in advance of the game.
  • Events & Concerts are drawn 5-7 days in advance of the show.

Prospera Place Code of Conduct
  • CHILDREN (2) AND UNDER DO NOT REQUIRE A TICKET-PROVIDED THEY ARE SEATED ON THEIR PARENT(S) LAP.
  • NO SMOKING ALLOWED IN PROSPERA PLACE AT ANYTIME.
  • TICKET STUBS MUST BE RETAINED AT ALL TIMES TO ALLOW USHERS TO VERIFY ACTUAL SEAT LOCATIONS.
  • MOVING IN THE AISLES IS PROHIBITED UNTIL STOPPAGE OF PLAY OR EVENT/CONCERT.
  • CAMERAS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN PROSPERA, UNLESS ACCREDITED BY THE KELOWNA ROCKETS OR THE WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE.
  • NO ABUSIVE OR FOUL LANGUAGE OR BEING OVERLY LOUD.
  • NO THROWING OF ITEMS ON TO ICE OR CONCERT AREA OR WITHIN SUITE.
  • NO OFFENSIVE CONDUCT (FIGHTING) IS ACCEPTED YOU WILL BE EVICTED FROM THE BUILDING IMMEDIATELY.
  • DRINK RESPONSIBLY-INTOXICATION IS UNACCEPTABLE AND MAY LEAD TO EVICTION.
  • YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR GUEST(S) BEHAVIOR AND ACTIONS; THIS WILL RESULT IN EVICTION OF YOU AND GUEST(S).
  • ANY DAMAGE IN THE SUITE CAUSED BY YOU OR YOUR GUEST(S) WILL RESULT IN EVICTION AND REPAYMENT OF COSTS OF DAMAGE.
  • RESPECT OTHERS.

All WFN residents have access to the gymnasium to practice technique, play games, or shoot some hoops.

Gymnasium and weight room

The gymnasium and weight room are open to all Westbank First Nation residents. During the school year, Sensisyusten has priority in the gymnasium Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Horseback Riding Lessons

This program enables Members interested in riding and horsemanship to obtain lessons. Contact Membership Services for more information.

Learn to run

When: Tuesdays  |  February 20 - April 17, 2018  |  12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
Where: Meet at upper parking lot of WFN Health & Wellness Building, 1900 Quail Lane, Westbank, BC

Join our WFN Team and train to participate in Canada's biggest starting line at the Annual Vancouver Sun Run. All running levels welcome! Open to all WFN members, community, and staff. To register, contact our Recreation Department at 250-768-4838.

Perks include fun, fact-filled nutrition workshops every other Wednesday and health, to-go lunches to take with you after each session.

*Participants responsible for their own transportation, food, and accommodations to the Vancouver Sun Run on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

Nike N7 Active Challenge

The Nike N7 challenge is a program that enables WFN members to earn rewards in the form of Nike products by participating in qualifying WFN recreational activities, including:

Yoga | Boot Camp | Weight Room | Youth Fitness | Elder's Walking Group | Elders Fitness | Learn to Walk/Run | Fitbit Log Sheets | Archery | WFN Gym Practices.

Participants must complete 10 activities, each 1 hr long. N7 Challenge forms must be filled out and verified by a recreation staff member or class instructor.

N7 Challenge Form & Policy 

Snow shoeing

When: Wednesdays  |  December to March  |  4:45 to 6:00 p.m.

Our youth and recreation department has nine snowshoes that can be borrowed on a first come first served basis. Protein bars and water will be provided. We will hike around our community or go up to Telemark.

Tier Athlete Funding (up to $1,200)

Tier athlete funding is intended to help make participation in sports activities more affordable for Members who wish to improve their health and wellness, obtain athletic scholarships, or pursue athletic careers through such activities.

The purpose of the Tier Athlete Funding policy is to outline the financial support that is available to Westbank First Nation Members for participation in sports activities, along with the criteria, funding limits, and eligibility requirements. 

This policy is a minor revision to Policy 2015-25 Recreation Funding.

Yoga

Balance the body, calm the mind, and connect with the spirit. Yoga programs will vary throughout the year, and dates and times vary. Please check the calendar for updated dates and times.
