The annual síyaʔ celebration started in 1990, when the Westbank First Nation School (now known as sənsisyustən) was first opened.
This celebration is a way for the syílx people to honour their tradition of celebrating natural land resources, which dates back to time immemorial.
The purpose of the celebration is to show gratitude towards the land and its resources, which is believed to help ensure a bountiful year ahead.
The Sncewips Heritage Museum invites you to attend the 34th Annual síyaʔ celebration at Pine Stadium on June 14th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please RSVP to WFNevents@wfn.ca
Please note: this year's event is only open to WFN members, the community, staff, and invited guests, not to the general public.
The siyaten Festival is open to the public on June 15th at Pine Stadium, 1900 Quail Lane - More Information to come!
